](http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_c82etHMq-GE/TAf1CJYu7vI/AAAAAAAACiI/9529H8UtFKc/s1600/Picture+4.png)BP has been using chemical dispersants to break up the oil flowing into the Gulf in an attempt to minimize environmental damage. And while BP claims the dispersants have helped, their use has been extremely controversial. Wednesday afternoon, samples of water from the Gulf arrived at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. They come from within the oil plume and also from along the edge of the sheen. Terry Hazen, who has expressed concern about the use of dispersants, will conduct tests on those samples to see if the oil is breaking up. He also wants to know how clean or toxic the water may be.
