Kihei Fourth Friday of every month, from 6pm till 9pm in Kihei, Hawaii. December 28, 2012 was the first event
At this event there were tons of venders selling crafts and lots of great food including vegetarian tofu, eggplant with rice from Hawaiian Moons Health Food Store. I must have waited in line for 30 minutes to sample some fresh squeezed lemon aid well worth the wait.
This event hosted at Azeka Mall parking lot extending outward into Piikea Street included numerous musical acts presented on a well light stage as well as art and movement performances by both adult and children.
December 28th marked the inaugural event for Kihei Fourth Friday Town Parties. The party took place from 6 to 9 p.m. at Azeka Shopping Center – Mauka, the “heart and soul” of Kihei. Following in the success of the other Maui Friday Town Parties, the first event held in Kihei Town was festive, with lots of food, art, crafts, Hawaiian activities and plenty of great shopping deals to be found. Other highlights included a Keiki/Youth Zone and top name entertainment. Headlining at the main stage was indie rock group Erin Smith & The Throwdowns, performing many of their hits including their debut single “Kihei Town.”
Opening Ceremony:
- 6 p.m. – Hawaiian blessing and invocation by Cultural Advisor, Kimokeo Kapahulehua
Entertainment
- 6:20 p.m. – The House Shakers, featuring Lenny Castellanos from Mick Fleetwood’s Blues Band
- 7:20 p.m. – Hula dancers
- 8 p.m. – Erin Smith and The Throwdowns
Activities
- The Keiki/Youth Zone provides a place for family-friendly activities and arts & crafts for children and teens. Hawaiian cultural crafts, lei making, language and educational activities were featured.
Food
- There was a large food court area with many local taste treats! In addition, Azeka Shopping Center Mauka had a variety of eateries: Coconuts Fish Café, Diamonds Ice Bar & Grill, Java Café, Jawz Fish Tacos Island Style Grill, Panda Express, Peggy Sue’s, and Stella Blues Café.
