MacBook Air (Mid 2013): FaceTime HD Camera may not work with some applications
Symptoms

Some applications not developed by Apple may not recognize the built-in FaceTime HD Camera or may display a black screen on MacBook Air (Mid 2013) computers. This may also occur with Final Cut Pro X v10.0.8.

Maybe I should start off by letting you know that I spent all day trying to figure out what I did wrong on my new 2013 MacBook Air laptop. Had been adding new programs to a MacBook Air that I did a clean install on and could not get the video camera access with either Skype or Google Talk plugin. I finally discovered that a problem was introduced after updating last night to 10.8.5. Here is the relevant chat from Skype Community Post By  Sebastian.

Hi to All

Workaround 1)

i have the same problem, but i have found a solution !!
1. You need Time Machine
2. Go to folder /Library/CoreMediaIO/Plug-Ins/DAL/
3. Copy AppleCamera.plugin to good place (usb memory stick is the best place).
4. Go to Time machine in date that skype work fine.
5. Change AppleCamera.plugin with file from Time Machine
6. Restart system, Now skype need to work with camera.

This solution is only for this time until Apple make update for this problem !!!!

Apple workaround:Resolution

Update any affected application to the latest version. Contact the developer for assistance with applications not developed by Apple.

As a work around for Final Cut Pro X or other OS X video applications, you can use QuickTime Player’s New Movie Recording menu item. Use this to capture video from the built-in camera and then import the clip to the application.

Using SGI Cosmo Worlds software, we pioneered the development of Internet based 3D virtual reality GIS based interactive worlds. In 1996 with a network of seven high performance SGI workstations we pioneered development of live streaming MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, Real Video and QuickTime Streaming Server utilizing Kassenna MediaBase software. In Maui 2002 we pioneered and tested the first wireless live streaming video using laptop computers and Maui Sky Fiber's portable 3G wireless device. In Maui we pioneered live streaming video using usb modems from AT&T , Verizon as well as live streaming from iPhone 3 over 3G wireless networks. Today The Maui S.A.V.E. Program has diversified into storm tracking including visualization and analysis of large, memory-intensive gridded data sets such as the National Hurricane Center's wind speed probabilities. I volunteer my services to numerous Disaster Services Organizations. In June 2013 I returned from Hurricane Sandy deployment as a computer operations service associate with the Disaster Services Technology Group assisting as The American Red Cross migrated from a Disaster Response Operation to Long Term Recovery Operations. Pioneering the production/editing and Internet distribution of HD video to sites like Youtube.com and Vimeo.com we are shining the light towards environmental and peace efforts of humans across the globe. Since 1992 I have held the vision of establishing Maui, Hawaii as the environmental sciences center of the world. After His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama of Tibet came to Maui This vision has expanded to establishing Maui as the environmental & peace center of the world.
