Time Machine broken after 10.7.5 update MacRumors Forums
I was attempting to backup today my 2011 MacBookPro internal ssd and the backup was unbelievably slow using usb 3 connection to the point that I aborted, gave up, reformatted my Time Machine drive and started looking around for solutions. Came across a thread on MacRumors Forums: Time Machine broken after 10.7.5 update MacRumors Forums
Thank God because my 100GB backup estimated time went from 24 hours to 36 minutes after following what dmax35 said
It’s a known spotlight issue. https://discussions.apple.com/message/19667005#19667005

If you disable Spotlight using the following command from within Terminal, Time Machine backups return to normal speed;
sudo launchctl unload -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.metadata.mds.plist
Once this has been resolved, you’ll be able to re-enable Spotlight with the following command;
sudo launchctl load -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.metadata.mds.plist
