A flash flood at Kulanihakoi Gulch in Kihei, Maui, sent knee-deep water across S. Kihei Road. The flooding resulted from a powerful early December winter storm that brought heavy rain, thunderstorms, high winds, and blizzard conditions to Hawaii, driven by a strong low pressure system and cold front.
The storm caused significant statewide damage, including one fatality and two known injuries. Trees, power poles, and lines were toppled, homes were damaged by flooding, and traffic was disrupted by the severe weather conditions.
